Inaugural Junior Contest

Inaugural Junior Contest 11th December 1994.

This will be the first solely junior longboard event ever conducted.

As a club we owe it to all junior surfers to put on a contest for them.
Beach Beat have donated a huge perpetual trophy.

At this stage we hope that we will be able to split the contestants into sensible age divisions, so that we don't have the little guys trying to battle it out with the bigger juniors. Of course, if the smaller guys want to have it out with the older guys in the Open Junior division then they are free to do so.

Depending on the response, the divisions will be:
Open Junior (under 18)
16 years to 14 years
under 14 years

Expected that club members will pitch in and help run the event.

The Future
December 1995 / January 1996 Alex Mal Club Newsletter
by Jack Boast

Look after the kids, for they are the future wave.

Longboarding is not some ancient art whose manoeuvres and style are writ in some holy scripture.

Longboarding must be a fully alive sport, drawing on the new and blending it with the old.

If we reject the kids and their gryations then we have signed the death warrant of our sport, for we have become little more than fossils clinging to flotsam which will surely become consigned to the dust heap of history.

See ya in the line up.
