The Weekend Wrap Well what a great weekend, with Huey delivering the goods on Finals day and not an onshore breeze to be seen over the whole 3 days. Saturday started with small perfect 1' waves and light offshore winds. Even with the perfect conditions it was tough trying to squeeze out judge pleasing manoeuvres. It was also exceptionally cold for the spectators with Maroochydore only achieving a max of 14deg. The poor Queensland spectators either froze and went home or like me, rummaged around in the ski gear and dug out the trusty thermals… mmm, warm buttocks. Sunday morning saw similar conditions, but by lunch the sun appeared it became evident that Huey was on the stir. The afternoon heats saw sets slowly increasing size and frequency much to the delight of competitors and organisers. Monday morning dawned cold and clear with 2’ to 3’ sets and a bunch of frothing finalist. By the time the Finals came around, 3’+ sets were becoming the norm, putting smiles on everyone’s face. The surfing was high performance, as good as you get anywhere in the country, and the Bluff proved again that it is the ultimate viewing platform for such an event. In the sunny perfect conditions the crowd cheered and applauded the great surfing on display. Thanks to all competitors, the organisers and the loyal sponsors. Next year will be huge with Hayden's 50th and the Alex Mal Club's 30th anniversary... bring it on! 2011 Hayden Winter Longboard Classic Results
